Itinerary: We depart by van from Casa Atacama heading north, through Quitor in the Catarpe Valley, until we reach the Tunnel (30 minutes). Later, we walk north along the Salt Mountain range cornice, before descending to the Catarpe Ayllu. Later, we’ll walk back along the San Pedro River to the San Isidro Chapel, where the van will be waiting to take us back to Casa Atacama (20 minutes).
This trek can be done in both directions.

Description: First, we head up one of the cornices of the Salt Mountain Range, ascending north up an abrupt rocky terrain laden with loose rocks. From the top, there is a spectacular 360º view that includes vistas of the Catarpe Valley and the San Pedro River, which runs underneath the cornices. In the distance, we can also take in the Andes and Domayko ranges, the Catarpe Ayllu, and Tambo Inca.
Afterward, we continue towards the cornice to descend into the valley, crossing the San Pedro River several times to reach the Catarpe Ayllu. From there, we walk back along the river until reaching the San Isidro Chapel.

Recommendations: Bring light clothing, a jacket, comfortable footwear for hiking, sunblock, sunglasses, a hat, and a backpack.
